Start from a frame you love and make every decision from there: fabric or leather, arm style, leg style and finish, overall size, and seat depth. Custom upholstery starts at $999 and is built with 8-way hand-tied construction, the traditional method where each spring is individually tied in eight directions so the seat flexes evenly and holds its shape for years instead of sagging in the middle.

What does 8-way hand-tied construction mean?
It's a traditional upholstery method where each spring is individually tied to its neighbors in eight directions with twine, creating a seat that flexes as one unit instead of sagging unevenly. It's the standard our custom program is built on, and you can see the frames cut open on the custom upholstery floor at any of our Maryland showrooms.
How much does custom upholstery cost?
Custom sofas and chairs start at $999 and scale up with size, fabric grade, and options like performance leather. An associate at any showroom — Bel Air, Catonsville, Frederick, Glen Burnie, Towson, or Westminster — can price your exact configuration on the spot.
What is Canadel UDesign?
UDesign is Canadel's build-your-own dining program: pick the table shape, wood species, stain, and base, then match chairs, benches, and stools to it. John Thomas offers a similar design-your-own program for casual dining sets.
Do performance fabrics cost extra?
Performance fabrics are one of the options you choose during configuration, alongside standard fabrics and leathers, so pricing depends on the grade you select rather than a flat surcharge. They hold up especially well in busy households with kids or pets.
Do I need an appointment for a custom order?
Walk-ins are always welcome, but a design appointment — in-showroom or virtual — gets you dedicated time with an associate to pull samples and use the room planner before you commit.
