Inside Southern Motion
Southern Motion started in 1996 in Pontotoc, Mississippi, and has grown into one of the largest motion-furniture makers in the United States, with five manufacturing facilities and more than 1,500 employees. Motion furniture is the whole business — not a side category — which is why the mechanisms, frames, and seat geometry are engineered rather than bolted on.
The brand's wellness features are what surprise most shoppers. SoCozi adds massage and heat to a seat that already reclines; Zero Gravity positions the body so the legs sit above the heart to relieve pressure on the lower back; wall-hugger designs recline fully within a few inches of the wall so a small Maryland family room still works.
Consoles matter too. Many Southern Motion groups include storage consoles with USB ports and wireless charging pads, cupholders, and drop-down tables — the details that turn a sofa into the place everybody actually sits.
